About Sanity Is Divinity

What is Sanity Is Divinity?

An independent counselling practice based in Bengaluru, offering individual and couples counselling in person and online. It is built around the belief that clarity about yourself, your patterns, and your choices is something worth protecting, not a luxury reserved for a crisis.

What kind of counselling do you provide?

Individual counselling for anxiety, stress, burnout, life transitions, self-understanding, and performance-related concerns, alongside couples counselling for relationship difficulties. Sessions are conversational and structured, drawing on evidence-based approaches rather than a single fixed method.

Who can seek counselling?

Any adult navigating something they'd like support thinking through: students, working professionals, couples, athletes, or anyone who wants a clearer relationship with themselves. There is no entry bar around how serious your concern needs to be.

Do I need a mental health diagnosis to seek counselling?

No. Most people arrive without a diagnosis and without needing one. Counselling does not require you to already know what is wrong. That is often part of what we figure out together.

What issues can I bring to counselling?

Anxiety, low mood, stress and burnout, relationship and family difficulties, career confusion, self-esteem, grief, identity questions, performance pressure, or simply a sense of feeling stuck. If you are unsure whether your concern counts, it does.

Is counselling only for people going through a crisis?

Not at all. Many people come during stable periods to understand a recurring pattern, prepare for a decision, or build self-awareness. Waiting for a crisis is one option, not a requirement.

What makes Sanity Is Divinity different?

The work is grounded rather than performative: no jargon-heavy positioning and no promise of quick fixes. Sessions draw on clinical training and the Perspective Analysis Technique (PAT), a framework developed specifically for this practice to help people see their situations more clearly.

02

Sessions & Booking

How do I book a session?

Through the contact form on the website or over WhatsApp. Share a little about what is bringing you in, and you will hear back within a day with available slots.

Are sessions available online or in person?

Both. In-person sessions run out of Bengaluru; online sessions are available over video for anyone elsewhere. You can also switch formats between sessions if circumstances call for it.

How long is a session?

60-90 mminutes depending on individual and couple sessions.

How frequently should I attend counselling?

Weekly to start, in most cases, to give the work momentum. We revisit frequency together every few sessions rather than locking it in upfront.

Can I book a single session?

A single session is entirely fine, and sometimes exactly what is needed. There is no minimum commitment; ongoing work is something we decide on together.

What happens during the first session?

We talk through what brought you in, what you have tried, and what you hope will be different. There is no assessment battery on day one, just a real, structured conversation.

Can I choose what I want to talk about?

Yes, always. You set the agenda for each session; the space is yours to use as you need it.

What if I do not know what to talk about?

That is a completely normal way to start. Not having a clear topic is worth exploring in itself, and the conversation can be guided until something worth following emerges.

Can I stop counselling whenever I want?

Yes. You are free to pause or end it whenever it feels right, ideally with a closing conversation so it does not end abruptly.

What happens if I need to reschedule?

Message ahead of time and we will find another slot. Give at least 24 hours' notice where possible; see the cancellation policy below for specifics.

03

Couples Counselling

Do you provide couples counselling?

Yes, for couples at any stage: dating, engaged, married, or navigating a specific rupture or transition.

Do both partners need to attend?

For couples sessions, yes. If only one partner wants to start, individual counselling is a reasonable place to begin instead.

Can couples counselling be conducted online?

Yes. Both partners can join the same video session from the same or different locations.

What if my partner does not want counselling?

That is common, and not a dead end. You can start individually to work through your own part of the dynamic, which may shift things or open the door for your partner later.

Do you take sides during couples counselling?

No. The role is to stay neutral to both individuals while being on the side of the relationship's honesty, naming patterns without assigning a winner.

What concerns can couples counselling address?

Communication breakdowns, trust and betrayal, recurring conflict, intimacy concerns, life-stage transitions, commitment decisions, and wanting a stronger, clearer partnership.

Is couples counselling only for relationships in crisis?

No. Couples also come during good periods to strengthen communication or work through recurring friction before it grows. Prevention is a valid reason to come in.

04

Your Approach

What approach do you use in counselling?

An integrative one, grounded in evidence-based psychological practice and shaped by the Perspective Analysis Technique (PAT), a framework built around how people see and get stuck within their situations.

What is Perspective Analysis Technique (PAT)?

PAT treats a difficulty not just as a problem to solve, but as a particular vantage point you are currently viewing it from. We slow down and map the perspective itself: what is assumed, what is outside your view, and where that vantage point came from.

How does PAT work?

It means naming the lens you are using, trying on alternative vantage points, and noticing what changes in your options, emotions, or sense of what is at stake. It is less about positive thinking and more about widening the aperture before deciding.

Is PAT suitable for relationship difficulties?

Yes. Relationship conflict often comes from two people defending a single, fixed perspective. PAT gives couples a structured way to see each other's vantage point without either person having to lose.

Is counselling simply giving advice?

No. Advice can solve the surface problem while leaving the underlying pattern untouched. The work is closer to helping you think clearly, so the decisions you reach are actually yours.

Will you tell me what decision I should make?

No. The role is to help you see the decision from more than one angle, so whatever you choose, you are choosing it with clearer eyes.

Do you use evidence-based psychological approaches?

Yes. PAT is used alongside, not instead of, established evidence-based approaches, within a broader clinical framework.

Is counselling about changing my personality?

No. The goal is to help you understand yourself well enough that your choices, relationships, and reactions make more sense and feel more like your own.

05

Privacy & Confidentiality

Is my counselling session confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is central to the work. What is shared in session stays there, within the legal limits explained during informed consent.

Who has access to the information I share?

Session notes are kept privately and securely, and are not shared with family, employers, institutions, or anyone else without your explicit written consent, barring a legal exception.

Are online sessions private and secure?

Sessions are conducted over encrypted video platforms, and recordings are never made. You are responsible for choosing a private space on your end.

Can I remain anonymous on the website?

Reaching out through the contact form or WhatsApp does not require any public disclosure. Your inquiry itself is private.

Will my family, partner, college, or workplace be told?

No. That information is not disclosed to anyone without your explicit consent.

What are the limits of confidentiality?

Confidentiality is not absolute. It can be limited where there is a serious, imminent risk to your life or someone else's, or where disclosure is legally mandated. These exceptions are explained before counselling begins.

06

Online Counselling

How does online counselling work?

You receive a secure video link ahead of your session. Join from wherever you have a stable connection and some privacy, and the session runs as an in-person one would.

What do I need for an online session?

A phone, tablet, or laptop with a camera and microphone, a reasonably stable internet connection, and headphones if you are not somewhere fully private.

Can I attend from my phone?

Yes, that is completely fine.

Do I need to be in a completely private room?

Ideally somewhere you will not be overheard or interrupted. A private room, a parked car, or headphones in a quiet corner can all work.

Is online counselling as effective as in-person counselling?

Research generally supports online counselling as comparably effective to in-person work for most concerns.

What happens if my internet connection drops?

We reconnect and pick up where we left off. For unstable connections, switching briefly to an audio call is also an option.

Can I attend sessions while travelling?

Yes, as long as you have a private space and a working connection. Flag time zone differences in advance.

07

Who Can Seek Counselling?

Can students seek counselling?

Yes, for academic pressure, identity questions, friendships, family expectations, or the general disorientation of that life stage.

Can working professionals seek counselling?

Yes, for burnout, career confusion, workplace conflict, and the exhaustion of feeling stuck in a role that no longer fits.

Can I seek counselling if my problem feels small?

Yes. There is no minimum severity requirement. If something is taking up space in your mind, it is worth bringing in.

Can I seek counselling for personal growth?

Absolutely. People come in to understand themselves better, build self-awareness, or work through a pattern before it becomes a problem.

Can I seek counselling if I have never been to therapy?

Yes. Most people who reach out are doing this for the first time. There is nothing you need to already know or prepare.

Can I seek counselling for relationship concerns if I am not married?

Yes. Couples counselling is open to any relationship stage, including dating and long-term partnerships.

08

What Counselling Is - and Isn't

Is counselling the same as advice?

No. Advice hands you an answer; counselling helps you build the clarity to reach your own.

Will you tell me what I should do?

No, though patterns may be named directly. The decision stays yours.

Does counselling mean something is wrong with me?

No. Seeking counselling is closer to maintenance than diagnosis. Many people simply want support thinking something through.

Do I have to talk about my childhood?

Not unless it is relevant and you want to go there. Plenty of effective work stays present-focused.

Do I have to discuss things I am not ready to discuss?

No. You set the pace. We can circle a topic before going near the centre of it.

Can counselling change someone else's behaviour?

Not directly. Counselling works on the person in the room, though changing how you show up can shift the dynamic around you.

How do I know whether counselling is helping?

We check in directly and regularly, noticing shifts in how you think, feel, or handle situations. If it is not helping, that is worth naming.

09

Crisis & Scope of Support

Is Sanity Is Divinity an emergency mental-health service?

No. This practice offers scheduled counselling sessions and is not equipped for emergency or crisis response, including immediate risk to life.

What should I do during an immediate mental-health crisis?

Contact a local emergency service, go to your nearest hospital, or reach a crisis helpline right away. This is not the right channel for anything that cannot wait.

Can counselling replace psychiatric treatment or medication?

No. Counselling and psychiatric care serve different purposes and often work best together. A counselling psychologist does not prescribe medication.

When might you recommend another mental-health professional?

If your needs fall outside the scope of counselling or suggest psychiatric evaluation or medication, this will be said directly and an appropriate referral offered.

Can you coordinate with another professional involved in my care?

Yes, with your written consent. Coordination can make overall care more joined-up.

10
